Data Center Education
On July 14, 2026 the Green County Board approved a moratorium on data centers. This moratorium is in place to provide local government officials time to learn more about data centers and plan proactively in case a data center is proposed in Green County. There are currently no proposals for a data center in Green County.
Data Center Education Sessions
Recognizing that according to Wisconsin state statute, there are limits to what local government entities can do regarding data centers, the overall question to address is “What can local government entities do to address data centers?” For that reason, the educational sessions focus on what a county can and cannot do when it comes to data centers.
The educational sessions will include both an informational presentation as well as time for questions. Both sessions will feature the same format and educational information.
Both educational sessions will be recorded and shared on line so the content is available for those who are unable to attend.
Topics covered will include
- An overview of what data centers are
- The overall infrastructure for data centers
- Common topics regarding data centers
- What local governments can do regarding data center regulations
Attendees can also write down their questions and perspectives to be shared with Green County Board members.
In collaboration with Green County, UW-Madison Division of Extension Green County will host two educational sessions for Green County residents.

No registration is required. These events is free and open to all.
