Welcome to the Green County 4-H Shooting Sports Project!  Leader names and contact numbers are also included on this page for your reference. If you have any questions regarding the Green County 4-H Shooting Sports Project, please contact the Extension Green County Office at 608-328-9440.

2024 Shooting Sports Information

All fees and permission forms are due to the Extension Green County office by January 8, 2024.

Youth who intend to participate in any of our 4-H Shooting Sports Clinics and Fair Shoots will need to
submit at the Open House or to the Extension Office by the Preferred Deadline of January 8, 2024:

  • 4-H Shooting Sports Permission Form
  • 4-H Shooting Sports Project Fees – Checks made payable to “Green County 4-H Adult Leaders” (see Shooting Sports newsletter, page 2 for details)
  • (Archery ONLY) Archery Club Waiver and Release of Liability form

Any members that miss the January 8th deadline will still be able to turn in these forms and fees until January 15th with an additional $5 late fee added. (Late fees will only be waived for 1st year families)

Tips for a successful shooting sports project:

  • Attend your event. Listen well, learn a lot, be safe, and have fun.
  • Leave County Fair targets with leaders at the clinic (they will submit on your behalf)
  • For Archery, .22 Rifle & .22 Pistol, keep track of what type of equipment you shot with (i.e. iron sights or scope, bare bow, 1-aid, or freestyle).
  • Remember to include your shooting sports participation on your Fair Entry form so that you can receive a ribbon and Fair Premiums.

Hunter's Education

Hunter’s Education is required to participate in powder burning disciplines-shotgun, muzzle loader, .22 rifle, .22 pistol, and air pistol (if a youth has not previously participated in air rifle. .

Classes can be taken in person or partially online/partially in person. Information can be found at the following DNR Hunter’s Safety link. Classes are added all the time–if you don’t see a class that works for you, check back often.

Shooting Sports Statewide Competitive Shoots

Youth can test their skills by attending competitive shoots at various locations around the state, and even have the opportunity to make the WI 4-H Shooting Sports Team to complete at Nationals: https://4h.extension.wisc.edu/opportunities/projects/shooting-sports/competitive-shoots/

Shooting Sports Volunteer Certification

Volunteers looking to become certified in the various disciplines of the 4-H Shooting Sports Program can take advantage of the next certification workshops: https://fyi.extension.wisc.edu/wi4hshootingsports/certification-workshops/.

Please note: Adults interested in serving as Shooting Sports Leaders must complete both the county 4-H New Volunteer Orientation and WI Certification Workshop.
